GIC Ltd was commissioned by UNIDO to conduct an independent evaluation (IE) of its Nigeria country programme (CP) between October 2017 and February 2018 for projects implemented between 2012 and 2017.
The purpose of the IE was to assess the impact and utility of the UNIDO CP, how well aligned to Nigeria’s priorities and to a small extent other global e.g. United Nations development programmes. Its aim was to highlight areas that require improvement and support the development of the successor country programme.
The evaluation found that UNIDO Nigeria is recognised throughout the country, valued for its technical expertise in industrial development, and sought and appreciated for its support. Its knowledge of the country and region as well as its specialised mandate constitutes its comparative advantage in the country. The Country Programme 2012 -2017, was in alignment with national development, industrial and economic priorities articulated in key policy documents. e.g. Vision 20:2020, the Nigeria Industrial Revolution Plan, (NIRP), and the Economic Growth and Recovery Plan (EGRP).
A good number of the projects have potential for impact. Nigerian youth and women are assets that can assure future success; their energy and numbers are a valuable resource not to be left untapped.
